Sandy Kilpatrick

'The Meditation Stone' is a song reminding us that even when we feel alone, we’re not really alone. There’s a hidden light inside us, which is  Kilpatrick's way of saying we all have some inner strength or peace that we can be with when we need it. Now, on the production side of things, the track really leans into its atmospheric elements, which makes sense given the meditative theme. And it all starts with a soft, calm Latin bird song and a river trail.

Musically, the song is built around two key instruments that do the heavy lifting, the keys and the guitars. These thin acoustic guitars are panned nicely, holding onto the rhythm and chords. With the low-end scooped out, every strum sounds bright and fresh. They’re thin but intentionally so, bringing out the clarity. Meanwhile, the rest of the layers are filled with synths and acoustic keys. There's a lot of variety in the tones, and you can tell real care went into the arrangement. The softer, more atmospheric sounds sit far back in the mix, while the more prominent elements, like the piano, take centre stage, adding texture and movement to the song.

Now, as the song evolves, more and more of these elements join in and the mix starts to get warmer and distorted. But then, the drums kick in, and the beat splits the melodies with its thumping kick and snappy snare. And then, there is Sandy's voice, tuning into nature and your inner self. It's uplifting and comforting, pushing this idea of self-discovery, of mindfulness, and how good it feels when you finally reach that point where your mind flows, and your heart grows. In fact, the whole theme is almost like a mantra of being present and mindful.
